First Inaugural Girls Chess & Math Summer Camp Series
Join us at the Bloomingdale Library in NYC on August 24-26 (at 2:30-4:30 PM, 12:00-2:00 PM, and 3:00-5:00 PM, respectively) for Rooks and Roots’ First Inaugural Girls’ Chess and Math Summer Camp Series!
This event will feature six hours of fun chess and math activities and instruction over three days, giving your child an immersive learning experience during their summer! Activities include original chess & math lessons designed for all skill levels, friendly chess tournament supported by Chesskid, chance to win a Chess.com membership, fun math games, competition practice, prizes for all participants, and much more!
Led by WGM Iris Mou, National Chess Team Champion & MATHCOUNTS competitor Lisa Sun, and an all-girls coaching team, this girls-only event seeks to provide an inclusive environment for girls to learn in the often male-dominated subjects of chess and math, directly aligning with our mission to bridge the gender gap. It is open to interested girls aged 7-12, and, as all Rooks and Roots events, it is 100% free for all!

Weekly In-Person Monday Open Workshops
Join us at the Bloomingdale Library from 4:00-6:00 PM Weekly on Mondays for open workshops! We will be set up in the children's area on the 2nd floor; come and go at any time!
We will be going over content day by day. For chess, this may include skittling games, learning new openings, or even just learning how to move the pieces! For math, we're just as flexible: we'll be available for homework review, test prep, enrichment problems, and more. We will give out small goodies for all participants!
Drop-off and pick-up is expected, but we encourage parents/guardians to stay!
Weekend Workshops
Can’t make Mondays? Don’t worry! We also run many weekend workshops and special events like the Girls Chess and Math Summer Camp Series (listed above) which we will continue to host once every 1-2 months. Sign up for our email to stay updated on these dates!
Tentative weekend workshop dates will be before important chess tournaments, like the Girls Nationals and SuperNationals. We will also hold some weekend math workshops.
